Caring for spouse with chronic pain and depression
Hello- my spouse is in severe chronic and unlikely to ever disappear Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome -CRPS, now over a twelve months period
i feel like it's seriously affecting our relationship, as her anger and reactivity totally overwhelms me, She is an introvert but more and more now wants to spend time alone mostly doing computer tasks, which she says keeps her occupied.
New today June 21.

Hey @Gedi,
Welcome to the SANE forums! It's great to have you here and thanks for telling the community a bit about yourself. Re: Caring for spouse with chronic pain and depression
Hi and welcome to the forums @Gedi.
It is very difficult when an illness of some description affects our partner and they begin to behave in ways we find it hard to recognise.
Similarly to @Shaz51 , I would ask whether your wife has medical support people around her, because the psychology of long term pain management is very important. Long term pain issues are known to result in depression, owing to a domino effect in the body's hormones (I am not medically trained, but my best friend and another family member have this life challenge).
My next thought is for you. Who is caring for the carer ? Burnout is a real condition, so it is important for you to have some interests of your own, and your own doctor's ear as well.
I am glad you have found us here. You're not alone.

Re: Caring for spouse with chronic pain and depression
Many thanks for your lengthy and supportive response. My wife has had the rounds with useless GPs and many Specialists as well as a bunch of other therapists, full of high hopes that raise our hopes and go nowhere. Most recently a. Confident and CRPS experienced PT....we'll wait and see. I can't convince her to stay with a Counsellor but I am with one, but he hasn't been all that helpful either. Thanks again, Gedi
